Help Clear the Way for a New Trail at Sanford Community Forest

On Saturday, June 8 volunteers will meet at the Sanford Community Forest to begin clearing the route for the new accessible trail. Because this volunteer workday will help meet grant requirements, each volunteer is asked to please initial the time sheet that will be on site with their name, phone number, and hours spent working. We appreciate the time you spend volunteering and your assistance with this important paperwork!

Who?

This workday will be led by Lee Burnett - board member and SCF steward – and Daniel Hill, our new stewardship assistant. Lee and Daniel are looking for six volunteers to help.

When and where?

The parking area and trailhead are located on Oak St/Route 11A, opposite house number 432. The group will meet at 9:00 a.m. and head out along the trail. It should be easy to catch up with us if you arrive later.

What needs doing?

Using loppers and handsaws to clear brush and branches, volunteers will open a corridor to form the trail, following flags that are already in place. We will also move any woody debris in the way.

What to bring:

  • Sturdy shoes for off-trail walking
  • Work gloves (we have some pairs available)
  • Loppers and/or a handsaw (we will have some spares)
  • Water bottle
  • Sunblock and bug spray
  • Please also dress to protect against ticks. Having pant legs tucked into socks and a shirt tucked into pants is a great first line of defense against ticks, as you have a better chance of seeing them before they get to your skin.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you!
