In 2015 Bike Month Cyclists contributed to the Kickapoo Rail Trail. (Opens this summer!) In 2016 we rasied money to purchase a fleet of 25 bicycles to use for Youth Bicycle Education Events all over Champaign County.
This year we are rasing funds to start an Earn-A-Bike Program for individuals in our community who need a bicycle for basic transportation. The program includes bicycle maintance classes and on-road bicycle safety instruction. Participants will earn new, high quality, low maintance bikes to which they will add racks, lights, and locks.
We have ordered our first 15 bikes and will use the funds raised during Bike Month to buy more bikes and extend the program. We desire that Champaign County be a welcoming and generous place for people in transition, people needing help with a new start, and the refugees and immigrants that are calling our community their new home. We have ordered bikes suitable for men, women, and high school students who are in need of reliable personal transportation. We want to encourage all of you to be involved and to be generous. Our suggested donation is $25, but feel free to give as little or much as you are able. (Your gift is tax-deductible, receipts will be auto-generated.) Thanks!
Donations are not required to participate in Bike to Work Day or any of the other Bike Month events.
