2018 Winter Work Weekend

Join us for a Volunteer Winter Work Weekend during the ship's winter season! We are thankful to the community for help and support to keep Adventuress sailing strong for many years to come!

What is a Volunteer Winter Work Weekend?

Since late October Adventuress has been secure in her winter berth, tied up at “D” Dock at Boat Haven Marina in Port Townsend. The captains have put together a busy winter maintenance schedule and these work weekends provide an opportunity for individuals, families, classrooms and companies to step aboard for a day or more and volunteer.

All big wooden schooners like Adventuress have a never-ending list of projects and these work weekends provide an opportunity for thirty to forty volunteers of all ages to accomplish in one weekend what might take an individual a month to complete.

Fill out the information below to sign up. No experience necessary and Sound Experience will provide any necessary safety equipment.

Please be sure to complete our Volunteer Application first so that we have contact information for you and your emergency contact.  If you completed this application in the past but your contact information has changed, please fill it out again. Thank you!

If you're interested in setting up a private company/organization outing or team building day to help with maintence on the ship please contact captains Katelinn or Nate at captain@soundexp.org

2023-2024 Volunteer Winter Work Weekends

Each day will typically be 9:00am-4:30pm at Boat Haven in Port Townsend. Specific information for each Volunteer Work Weekend will be sent out a week or so beforehand. See below for dates and goals for each weekend and keep scrolling below to sign up!

Cooking Hot Lunch

As part of Volunteer Winter Work Weekends, the ship provides hot lunch, coffee and tea. We are looking for volunteers to cook a simple vegetarian meal for around 30 people. The stove will be on and we will supply ingredients. Breakfast, for those staying on the ship, will be organized by the ship/winter crew. (Folks with dietary restrictions are encouraged to any additional nourishment they need). Is this your time to shine in the galley?

Overnight Accommodations

This winter, volunteers can choose to spend the night on the ship (space is limited). Dinner and breakfast will be provided. And, in order to help prevent the spread of Covid, anyone sleeping aboard the ship will need to take a Covid test before arriving at the ship. Please check any dates that you'd like to stay aboard:

For example, are you planning to be volunteering all day (the full 7 hours) or for a half a day (3-4 hours)?
