Leave No Trace Volunteer and Hike at Tangeman Woods

Leave No Trace is a movement that protects the outdoors by teaching people how to enjoy it responsibly. Join us for this event to learn more about the Principles of Leave No Trace and volunteer to clean up our preserve. We will conclude with a short hike to experience the beauty of Tangeman Woods trails in winter. Our guest leader Anne Barnhorst is a Leave No Trace Master Educator, Wilderness First Aid certified, and Volunteer Preserve Steward at Tangeman Woods.

How to prepare:

  • Dress appropriately for being outdoors based on the weather forecast (layering is recommended)
  • For cold weather, don't forget a hat, coat, gloves or mittens, and warm socks
  • Wear long pants and sturdy closed toe shoes or boots with good traction
  • In cold weather, footwear that is too tight can lead to cold feet (if you wear thick socks, make sure there is plenty of room for good circulation and insulating air pockets)
  • Wear work gloves (some will be provided or you are welcome to bring your own)
  • Bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated (water will also be provided)
  • Use bug repellent for protection against tick and insect bites (some will be provided or you are welcome to use your own)
  • Please keep in mind that there are no restrooms at our preserves
